Trauma Therapy: A Trauma-Informed Approach

Starting therapy after trauma can feel daunting. You may wonder if you’ll be asked to talk about things you’re not ready to revisit, or worry that you’ll feel judged or overwhelmed. That’s why I work in a trauma-informed way — an approach that puts your safety, choice, and pace at the centre of everything.


What Trauma-Informed Therapy Means


Trauma-informed therapy isn’t a single method. Instead, it’s an attitude and way of working that recognises how trauma can affect your mind, body, emotions, and relationships. My role as your therapist is to provide a calm, consistent space where you can begin to make sense of what’s happened without ever feeling rushed or pressured.


How It Differs From Regular Therapy


In many types of therapy, you might be encouraged to dive straight into painful memories or focus quickly on problem-solving. In trauma therapy, the process is different:


  • Safety first – we focus on creating a stable, supportive space before exploring difficult experiences.

  • Pacing – you decide what feels manageable, and we move gently. Nothing is forced.

  • Grounding tools – I’ll offer ways to regulate and calm your body and mind, so you feel steady as we work together.

  • Collaboration – you are always an active partner in therapy. My role is to listen closely, reflect with you, and help you discover new ways forward.


What It’s Like to Work Together


In our sessions, you’ll find a confidential place where your experiences are met with warmth and compassion. Sometimes we’ll explore what’s happening for you in the present. Other times, we may gently connect current struggles with past events, always at a pace that feels safe.

I will listen without judgment, help you put words to your experiences, and support you to feel calmer, more in control, and more connected to yourself. Over time, trauma therapy can help you:


  • feel safer in your own body and mind

  • ease symptoms of anxiety, stress, or overwhelm

  • build steadier relationships with others

  • develop a kinder, more confident relationship with yourself
